Start with visitor tasks
Identify the questions visitors need answered and the actions they should be able to complete. Review the current navigation and key pages against those tasks.
- Can a visitor understand the offer?
- Can they find relevant detail?
- Is the next step clear?
Make a content inventory
Record the existing pages and decide which to keep, rewrite, combine or retire. Identify who can approve factual claims and supply missing content. Avoid moving outdated information into a new design.
- Page purpose and intended audience
- Content owner and revision needs
- Approved images, testimonials and project information
Plan the transition
A redesign can affect URLs, enquiries, integrations and publishing routines. Record the existing setup so that the transition can be planned and checked.
- Existing URLs and proposed destinations
- Forms and their delivery destinations
- Hosting, access and integration responsibilities
Define launch checks and ownership
Agree who will review content, test journeys and maintain the website after launch. Include mobile use and error states in the review.
- Contact and transaction journeys
- Mobile navigation and readable content
- Editor handover and continuing maintenance
Put it into practice.
Prepare a page inventory, examples of visitor difficulties and a list of systems connected to the website before discussing the redesign.
